GRAVITO
Gravito is a truly magical spot with many acres of land surrounded by forests. Like many “aldeias” of its kind it was abandoned many years, leaving the work of generations to be overtaken by wilderness.
For the last 10 years the restoration of the buildings and the terraces bit by bit has been implemented with the help of family, friends and volunteers. For the first 7 years the main focus was the creation of a retreat center with domes and tipi’s, and a big geodesic dome for group practice.
After the fires in 2017, 1 hectare of land has been reverse terraced, swales installed as well as large reservoir created. On the terraces hundreds of trees, shrubs, medicinal plants and flowers in combination and succession have been planted, and is being expanded as funds become available

LIBENLIHA VENTURE
Libelinha Venture was purchased in May 2017 and the wildfires that devastated the area happened in June of the same year. This started an Eco-restoration project increasing the size of the land from 4 hectares to 15 hectares.
In October 2019 3.5 hectares of land that the fires had passed through were cleared with the implementation of reverse terraces to assist with water penetration into the ground.
In November a team of 8 people planted 3000 Oak and Cork Oak seeds on the slopes between the terraces, 10% of which have germinated and survived the first year.
In the summer of 2020 the process of regenerating the top soil was started in preparation to plant the syntropic lines in the winter of 2020 & 2021.

Claire is a mediator and facilitator and has helped setup and manage a number of foundations and charities in the past.
Claire‘s an avid traveller and loves the nature. Also a mother of two teenagers, Claire wants to make sure that her kids grow up in a better world.

A husband and wife team who left Malta in 2019 to live on the land, committing themselves full time to the project.
Coming from 3 generations of Nurserymen, qualified in Forestry & Land Management. they bring a wealth of hands on experience.

Gravito is a non-profit organisation working for the development of consciousness and the protection of our natural heritage.
Our aim is to restore the ecosystem by gently moving away from the eucalyptus and pine monoculture towards biodiverse conditions.
Enhancing the preservation and reintroduction of native species by using permaculture principles.
Reflorestar Portugal connects different society interveners to contribute to the regeneration of communities and native forests through soil recovery, water cycle restoration and biodiversity preservation.
